Re: Text Adventuring

Yeah, I think you're the only one still playing. Have been for a few pages.
The other ones sort of forgot, or lost interest...

There's three dimples you need to figure out, you know what one of them reacts to.
Your elemental spells are just the basics, by the way. They have great raw power at the moment, but they could still be improved upon.

You gather some scraps of wood from around the classroom, and fill the two empty dimples with them.
You take out your wand, and use your ember spell to make small fires inside the dimples.

It takes a bit of time for the fires to grow.
The fire in the dimple that was underneath the shelves reacts to the ingredients in and around the dimple. It hisses, gives off yellow sparks, and produces beautiful green smoke.

The other dimple, nearer to the entrance, isn't as spectacular.
A glowing "FIRE" rune has appeared near the dimple.

The fires die out soon after your discovery.

Re: Text Adventuring

Lol. That would have slowed down the inevitable progress to the correct combination anyway. LOL

For some reason, I thought there were 4. No matter. I'm 2/3 now.

Focusing on the dimple that was under the shelves. I really want to cast HOOTUS POOTUS / SBD at it, because it's wind and it's funny. Otherwise, I'll be trying GUSTO first, then PILE-O-DIRT.

Have a feeling I need to do more with the spells, but want to get the correct combination first.

Re: Text Adventuring

Oh! I phrased things awkwardly again, didn't I?

I meant there were 3 unknowns + 1 known = 4 dimples.
Now there are 2 + 2, obviously.

Re: Text Adventuring

Okay, so the one under the desk was the water one. The one under the shelves is the fire one. Two more to sort out. If I have it straight, one of the other two is full of water and a happy Mr. Bo Jangles.

Same strategy. I'll have to retrieve Bo Jangles and swish the water out of that dimple. Then cast GUSTO at both of the two remaining.

Re: Text Adventuring

Good plan.
I'll try to paint a situational sketch...

You stand in the middle of the classroom, back towards the door, and assess the situation.
At your two-o'clock was the teacher's desk. The dimple responded to water, but is now filled with dirt and vines.
At your four-o'clock, there's a chalk board. You don't know what the dimple responds to, but it's filled with water and a paper toad.
At your eight-o'clock, there's no real landmark. The dimple there responded to fire, and is now filled with ashes.
At your ten-o'clock, there's a debris of shelves and ingredients. You don't know what the dimple responds to, but the ingredients can be set on fire. Apparently. The dimple has ashes in it.

You walk over to the broken shelves, and cast you Gusto spell at the dimple.
You overdo it a little. Some of the shelf pieces fly around the room, and so do any loose herbs and spices.
The ingredients hiss and pop as they land in various other substances, but no runes appear.

You then walk over to the chalk board, retrieve mr. Bo Jangles, and empty the dimple as best you can.
You cast a somewhat weaker version of Gusto. The dimple dries out, and an "Air" rune glows next to it.
At least, as long as you keep casting. The rune disappears when you stop blowing.

Re: Text Adventuring

Alright, just a quickie then...

You fill the dimple between the shelves with dirt.
The sand turns multi-colored when it comes in contact with the many different substances around it.
It sort of looks like overheated metal. There's yellows and purples. It's quite mesmerizing.

So mesmerizing, you almost miss the "Earth" rune lighting up beside the dimple.

Re: Text Adventuring

If I recall from the past, we have all those vines in the way of the original dimple. We need to clear those out, or at least a path to get to the original dimple and fill it with water, or at least make it wet again, since it was cracked. No idea if it will hold water anymore.

Is Acid Spit something that spits acid, or just a rude gesture? Either way, let's find out if the vines react to either and cast it their way, down low towards the dimple area.

#369 2019-03-10 11:49:35

Re: Text Adventuring

I forgot you even had that spell...

Realising you need to clear the vines you so ignorantly planted, you walk towards the plant in the corner.

You tug and bend at it some more, but the vines remain resilient.

Then something clicks in the back of your mind: an acidic spell!
You look it up in the offensive magic book, just to refresh your memory.

Having studied the spell, you grab your wand.
You feel a little awkward performing such a rude spell, but there's very little options.
Thank heavens that Orc lady isn't in the room to misread your intentions...

You make the gestures, and spit as well as you can, hoping you don't hit your own fingers in the process.
The spit sort of hits one of the vines. There's a shirt hiss, and you see the vine burn away.
Everything attached to the vine shrivles and dies, but the rest of the plant stays alive.

You cast the spell a few more times, killing parts of the plant one vine at a time, until you have a clear path to the roots of it.
You set up for one last shot, aiming at the base of the plant, and spit. The entire tangle of vines shakes as the acid burns through its roots.
Slowly, all life leaves the organism. You pull away all of the dead material, until the dimple is once again clear.
The remainder of dead root also removes most of the dirt, which is nice.

You cast your water spell on it, and fill the dimple.
The water rune reappears next to it.
It's not quite water tight anymore, but the water stays in it long enough for you to activate the other dimples.

Re: Text Adventuring

Okay. So we have Earth sitting in the Earth dimple and water (for now) sitting in the water dimple.

I want to build a fire using some of the pieces of desk in the fire dimple and ignite it with EMBER. Once that's burning (and before it goes out) I'll move over to the Air dimple and cast GUSTO at it until the rune appears.

That should activate all 4 runes.

#371 2019-03-17 06:21:28

Re: Text Adventuring

You scurry around the room, gathering some fire wood to put in the fire dimple.
You top off the water dimple before igniting a fire in the fire dimple.
You quickly blow magic wind in the air dimple.

All four runes light up at once.
At first, nothing happens. But then, there's a rumble, and the noise of stone sliding across stone.

A large slab of stone in the middle of the classroom has lifted up.

You walk towards it, and prop it open.
There's a hidden compartment underneath. It's caked with dust and spider webs.
Inside it, is a moldy old book. On it, in gold leaf letters, are the initials "ES".

You leaf through it, and discover it's an operating manual for the alchemy machine.
It has descriptions of buttons, levers, and procedures in it, and some experimental recipes, but no specific information about where the machine actually is.

You wonder whether to report this finding immediately, or try to find the machine first.

Re: Text Adventuring

Had to go back too. LOL

I have a feeling we are in for a meeting anyway, if we want it or not. Find a satchel, put the book into it and visit the headmaster row again and stand in front of Ersin Spindel's painting.

Probably won't be doing a response to the next update until I get back from the UK in 2 weeks.

#373 2019-03-31 08:19:03

Re: Text Adventuring

I took the liberty of taking a little break myself...

Holding the manual tightly, you search the room for a satchel or purse of some kind to carry the book.
After a while of finding nothing, it occurs to you that your robe's pockets are infinitely deep.
You stick the manual into one of them, and move on.

You decide to go and examine Ersin Spinsel's painting once more to find more clues.

As you walk towards the door, you see a plate of sandwiches and a can of soda sitting on the threshold, and a neon tuft fleeing from sight.
You pick them up, and consume them as you walk.

You pass the bathroom, and seeing as it's been a while since you've used one, you go in.
You clean yourself up as well as you can, but since you don't know where your clothes are kept at the moment, you resign to wear the muck stained ones you have on now.

You continue your route towards the portrait gallery, and near the passage between the great hall and the front door. Some Orcs are still standing guard as others pass to and from the great hall.
You decide and have a little fun with your "wind" spells.

You cast the SBD spell near the guard Orcs, just as a third one is coming out of the hall.
The third one pinches his nose, wafts his hand, and runs outside, eyes tearing.
One of the guards holds his mouth, and runs after him. He's looking a bit greener than usual, and you hear him hurl as soon as he's outside.
The other guard looks at the spectacle bemusedly, but seems to undergo no effects from your spell.
He sniffs his armpits, shrugs, and goes back to guarding the door.

You walk past, look at the scene, and feign ignorance to the remaining guard.
He scoffs at you, and motions at you to move along.

You continue, and eventually get to the corridor overlooking the lake.
It's not quite in the state you left it in.

Some one has apparently used the books to build cover for a book fight of some kind.
There's two semi-circular walls, set a few dozen feet apart, made up entirely out of library books, and numerous othe books litter the floor between the cover walls.

As you walk through the mess, a "NOVICE DUELLING" book catches your eye. Thinking this might come in handy, you grab it.

You lean against the window, and stare at Ersin's portrait.

Re: Text Adventuring

Sorry, bit of an awkward schedule this week...
Been on a weekend trip for our anniversary...

You sit down on top of one of the walls of books, and crack open the duelling book.

There appear to be many basic duelling spells. If only you had the time to master them all.
You think it prudent to have at least one blocking spell, and one deflecting spell. That way, at least you'll have some form of defence. Though you don't expect to be needing them soon.

You try to remember a disarming spell, but you find it tricky and confusing. Still, it could come in handy, even if you do bodge it under pressure...

As another form of attack, you choose a spell that shoot lightning bolts out of the tip of your wand, just because you think it's cool.

Re: Text Adventuring

Happy Anniversary!

While we are waiting... let's sing a song.

#377 2019-04-15 04:03:05

Re: Text Adventuring

As you are paging through the book, you start singing "Volare".
Your singing attracts a few Orcs and half-Orcs.
Just as you're about to reach the chorus, you notice them.
You stop singing and stare at them in an awkward silence.
Then, almost simultaneously, they start belting out: "VOO-LAAAAA-RE! OH OH OH OH!"
You join in, singing as loudly as you can, enjoying this little moment of happiness.
Your combined voices seem to vibrate the building.

When the song is over, applaus fills the corridors.
More Orcs have come to see what the noise was about.

Then, it suddenly stops dead, and the Orcs scatter.
A slow clap is coming from behind you.

You turn around, and see Levi, clapping, but obviously less than amused by your preference to sing rather than to search for clues.

"Well?" He asks you, looking down upon you.
"Has your search lead to anything yet?"

He is growing impatient.
You wonder whether to tell him, or keep the manual from him.

He's probably going to figure out something anyway, is my guess. But let's string him along a moment to see.

I would like to ask Levi what information he has about Ersin Spindel as well as the painting of ES.
